Winter Iowa Games Celebrate 25 Years in Dubuque
DUBUQUE, Iowa – Athletes from around the state will compete in Dubuque this weekend, January 28-29, celebrating the 25th Winter Iowa Games. Competitions will be held in 12 events at 14 venues throughout the Dubuque community. More than 3,700 athletes are registered for the Winter Iowa Games. State Games of America Coming to Ames & Des Moines
AMES, Iowa – The Iowa Games, in collaboration with, Iowa State University, Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau and Catch Des Moines have been selected to host the 2021 State Games of America in Ames and Des Moines. The 2016 Iowa Games Marty McHone Male and Female Athletes of the Year were announced and recognized at Terrace Hill in Des Moines. Phillip Ramsey, Ankeny, and Ann Hegstrom, De Soto, were recipients of the award which was renamed in 2003 after Marty McHone, long-time Iowa Games athlete, passed away from cancer.

As the Iowa Games celebrates its 30th year this summer, Sondra Ashmore (Biere) will be celebrating her return to the Games as she is scheduled to compete in the high jump, 100M and 200M. The competition will take place at the Cyclone Sports Complex at Iowa State University on Saturday, July 16.

Athletes from all around the state will roll into Dubuque this weekend, January 30-31, for the 24th annual Winter Iowa Games. Competitions will be held in 12 events at 16 venues throughout the Dubuque community. Events on the schedule include: alpine ski racing, youth basketball, cross country skiing, a fitness walk, youth ice hockey, indoor soccer, martial arts, pickleball, 5K road race, swimming, table tennis, trapshooting, youth volleyball and a Zumba Fitness® class.

The Iowa Games recently made a $3,967.40 donation to the Iowa Food Bank Association at Terrace Hill in Des Moines. Throughout 2015, Iowa Games athletes and fans made donations through online registration and purchase of Iowa Games Opening Ceremony tickets. “For the second consecutive year, Iowans did not disappoint through their donations,” commented Kim Abels, sports and special events director.

Former Cyclone and NFL Quarterback to Headline the Opening Ceremony The 2015 Summer Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project will officially kick-off on Friday, July 17. Held at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, the Opening Ceremony will feature former Iowa State University and NFL quarterback, Seneca Wallace as the keynote speaker. AMES, IOWA, July 9, 2015 – The Summer Iowa Games will again hold their Olympic-style event in Ames! The games bring over 14,000 athletes to the area to compete in over 50 sporting events. The competition begins each year with the Athlete Jamboree. This event brings athletes, their families, coaches and the community together to participate in a variety of activities and entertainment.
