Iowa Games Triathlon Set For Sunday

AMES, Iowa – July 8, 2020 – The 2020 Summer Iowa Games presented by Grinnell Mutual will host the annual triathlon and duathlon on Sunday, July 12 at Big Creek State Park near Polk City. Over 200 athletes are expected to participate in this year’s event.

In an effort to keep participants, volunteers and staff safe, guidelines and protocols will be put into place for this event. Many aspects of the event will be contactless or social distanced to coincide with state and local guidelines.

Iowa Games officials, along with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, are continually monitory the water quality situation at Big Creek Lake. Athletes will be notified of any changes to the event following a water test on Friday morning. For a complete list of the safety protocols, visit www.iowagames.org/Triathlon.

The competition will begin at 8:00 AM and conclude around 11:00 AM. Residents and visitors in the area should expect an increased flow of traffic during this time. The race will start and finish near the beach at Big Creek State Park. The quarter-mile swim will kick off the event, followed by a 16 kilometer bike and finishing with the 5 kilometer run. The bike portion of the race is an out and back course, leaving the park on NW 142nd Ave and turning around about one mile west of Alleman. The run course will utilize the running/walking paths in the park.
