Qualifying Event

Competition Format

(except for Mini-Mite, Mite)

This tournament is intended for C-level teams. Teams outside of the C-level ranking are welcome to participate, however, please be aware of the level of competition. Teams will be guaranteed at least 3 games.  Please have players jersey numbers when registering!!

Round-robin tournament with all teams playing three (3) games whenever possible. All divisions will play three 12 minute periods (may be adjusted depending on the number of teams). Multiple teams from a city may enter the tournament. Coaches must be certified by USA Hockey. Each coach will have to produce his or her certified coaching card prior to each game

Mite Competition Format

Teams will be guaranteed at least 4 games.

Mite division will focus on participation with a Jamboree format.  No scores or standings will be kept, games will be half ice, 4 on 4 plus goalies, line changes every 90 seconds and a coach from each team will officiate. Teams will play two 15:00 minute halves, allowing 2 minutes for warm-up and 1 minute break. All participants will receive a medal.

Mini-Mite Competition Format

In keeping with the philosophy of the Iowa Games, the Mini Mite division will focus on participation with a Jamboree format. No scores or standings will be kept, no goalies will be used and teams will play cross ice.  All participants will receive a medal. This division will play 3 on 3 for 24 minutes with line changers signaled every one minute.

Whenever possible, teams will be scheduled 3 games on Saturday and 2 games on Sunday; depending on amount of teams entered into a tournament and scheduling conflicts.

Scoring

Medal winners in each division will be based on win-loss-tie record (i.e. 2 points per win, 0 points per loss, 1 point for a tie). If a tie exists after all games, then it will be broken by an additional set of criteria that will be given with the rule adaptations.

Scorer Requirements

The Iowa Games is successful only through the efforts of its volunteers. Hosting rink will provide game clock and score keeper, but each team is required to provide qualified individuals to assist with penalty box while their team is playing.

Rules

Current USA Hockey rules will apply. This is a sanctioned tournament. All referees the teams provide must be USA Hockey Certified. Coaches must also be certified by USA Hockey. Each coach will have to present his/her certified card prior to each game.

T-shirts

Registration includes a cotton t-shirt. Athletes have the option to upgrade their cotton shirt to a dri-fit shirt for an additional $12.00 until January 2.

Mini-Mite (6 & Under) – To allow for quality playing time, recommended roster size is 6-9 players.

Mite (8 & Under) – To allow for quality playing time, recommended roster size is 8-12 players and 1 goalie.

Squirt (10 & Under)

A schedule will be posted here no later than Friday, March 15, 2024.

Schedules, Results and Teams will all be available through Iowa Games Team App on your smartphone.

Mini-Mite & Mite: The App is only for your schedule, not results.
You will still notice a results section on your division but that won’t be used on tournament day.
