Iowa Games Athletes Donate to the Iowa Food Bank Association

The Iowa Games recently made a donation to the Iowa Food Bank Association for $3,604.50 at an annual reception at Terrace Hill in Des Moines. During the course of the year two options were available for Iowa Games participants to donate. Donations were made through online registration and through the purchase of an Iowa Games Opening Ceremony ticket.

When an individual or team registered online for an Iowa Games event, they could ‘round’ up their cart to make a donation.  Some gave one dollar while others gave fifty. The biggest change to this year’s Summer Iowa Games was ticket purchases to the Opening Ceremony.  All registered Iowa Games athletes received a free ticket to the event, but family and friends who attended purchased tickets and all proceeds benefited the Iowa Food Bank Association.

“Iowans did not disappoint through their donations this past year,” commented Kim Abels, sports and special events director.  “We are proud of our participants for stepping up to the plate and are thrilled with the donation which will help feed the 12.7% of Iowans who are food insecure.”

The Iowa Games is proud to form this partnership with the Iowa Food Bank Association, which would not have been possible without the Games presenting sponsor the Iowa Food and Family Project.  The Iowa Games staff looks forward to continuing this relationship with the Iowa Food Bank Association.
