University of Iowa Football Stand-Out to Lead the Iowa Sports Foundation

The Board of Directors of the Iowa Sports Foundation (ISF) is pleased to announce Chuck Long has been named Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer.  Mr. Long will lead the organization in its efforts to provide quality sports, wellness, nutrition and fitness programs for Iowans of every age and ability.  Long is a seasoned executive who has provided leadership in the sports field for more than 30 years, with extensive experience leading multidimensional programs.

“Chuck’s experience on and off the field in a leadership role makes him the ideal candidate to take over the playbook for the Iowa Sports Foundation,” says Doug Reichardt, Chairman of the ISF board.  “Chuck’s passion for sports and advocacy for lifelong fitness will inspire adults and youth of all ages to live a healthy active lifestyle.  With his leadership we will be one step closer to achieving Iowa’s goal of becoming number one in well-being.”

Long was a consensus All-American quarterback for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes (1981-1985), Big Ten player of the year, recipient of the Maxwell Award (college player of the year) and the Davey O’Brien Award (nation’s best quarterback), Heisman Trophy runner-up and first round NFL draft pick in 1986.  Long played eight seasons with the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams before joining the 1995 University of Iowa coaching staff under the direction of Hayden Fry.  Long’s sixteen-year coaching career included positions with the country’s other top college football programs including the University of Oklahoma 2000 national champions, San Diego State University, and the University of Kansas.

Inducted into College Football Hall of Fame in 1999, Long is an inaugural member of the Kinnick Stadium Wall of Honor.

Long leaves Holmes Murphy where he served as a Business Development Executive since 2013. Long will continue to provide sports analysis for the Big Ten Network.

The Iowa Sports Foundation (ISF) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide sports, recreation, health and wellness opportunities for Iowans of all ages and abilities.  The ISF promotes well-being including physical fitness through athletic events and health education programs for individuals, communities, and businesses. ISF programs include the Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food and Family Project, Live Healthy Iowa, Adaptive Sports Iowa, and Iowa Senior Games.
