Competition Format

Round robin tournament with all teams playing three (3) games whenever possible. Games will be three - 15 minute periods.

For ADULT ice hockey a player can only be on one roster.  Women can play on men's teams but MUST be at least 16 years of age or older to compete - NO EXCEPTIONS!

Divisions include competitive, recreational and intermediate.
Competitive: For former high school and college players who may be only a few years beyond those levels and are in good physical condition.  Play is fast and physical (although checking is not allowed).  Players have excellent control over skating, passing and shooting and are rarely out of position.

Recreational: Is for emerging skaters who possess the basic skills for skating, but may struggle with carrying the puck, making passes, and taking shots.  Very little physical contact occurs, but accidental collisions occur because players haven't mastered controlled skating.

Intermediate:  Is for players with intermediate hockey skills.  Typically players have high school experience and are comfortable with a fast paced game and are able to keep up with the game and control it at times.

Scoring
Medal winners in each division will be based on win-loss-tie record (i.e. 2 points per win, 0 points per loss, 1 point for a tie). If a tie exists after all games, then it will be broken by an additional set of criteria that will be given with the game schedule.

Scorer Requirements
The Iowa Games is successful only through the efforts of its volunteers. Each team is required to provide qualified individuals to assist with announcing and scorekeeping while their team is playing.

Rules

Current USA Hockey rules will apply. Helmets are required for all athletes.

THIS IS A NON-CHECKING TOURNAMENT
