Competition Information

Competition Format

All events will be grouped by test level as of entry deadline. Males and females will compete separately if entries warrant. Levels with more than 8 entries may be divided by age. Skaters may enter one level higher than the level for which they are otherwise qualified. Programs may be shorter then stated time. Freestyle levels may be combined if there are less than two in a group.   


Adult Skaters

Please indicate your freestyle level on your entry form.


Dressing Area

Separate male and female locker rooms will be available.

Music

Skaters must provide their own music on cassette tapes or CDs with jewel cases. Please mark tapes/CDs with the skater's name and event. Be sure your tapes are re-wound and ready to play.  Skaters should have a second tape or CD that can be used as a back up. All tapes/CDs should be turned in at the time of check-in and picked up following the competition. 

Rules/Sanctioning

USFS rules will apply.  The 6.0 USFS judging system will be used for this competition.  The referee reserves the right to combine groups of similar ability, if entries warrant.  Athletes are not required to be member of the USFSA to participate in State Games, but must meet USFS eligibility requirements. 

Awards

Medals will be presented to the top 3 skaters in each event and will be presented throughout the competition as soon as possible after the conclusion of each level.

Practice Ice

The practice ice schedule will be posted at www.amesfsc.org by July 20. One practice ice session is included in your entry fee. Skaters will be grouped according to their skating level and events.

FREESKATE REQUIREMENTS/RESTRICTIONS:
Basic Restrictions: The skating order of the required elements is optional. The elements are not restricted as to number of times element is executed, or length of glides, number of revolutions in a spin, etc. unless otherwise stated. Minimum number of connecting steps are allowed. May use vocal music. May use elements from a previous level. Deductions will be made if elements from a higher level are skated. To be skated on full ice.

Basic Program Event: SNOWPLOW SAM - BASIC 8
Basic Skills Competitors may not have passed any USFS Moves in the Field, Figure, Dance or Freestyle tests). The skating order of the required elements is optional. The elements are not restricted as to the number of times the element is executed or length of glides, number of revolutions, etc. unless otherwise specified. Rules are as per 2010-2011 Basic Skills Competition Manual; to be skated on full ice, vocal music is allowed, the skate may use elements from a previous level, .2 deduction will be taken for each element performed from a higher level and Time: 1:00 +/- 10 seconds.
 

Snowplow Sam - Tots: March followed by a two foot glide and dip; Forward two foot swizzles 2-3 in a row; Forward snowplow stop; Backward wiggles 2-6 in a row

Basic 1:
Forward two foot glide; Forward two foot swizzles 6 -8 in a row; Backward wiggles 6-8 in a row; Forward snowplow stop

Basic 2:
Forward one foot glide - either foot; Two foot turn in place - forward to backward; Backward two foot swizzles 6 - 8 in a row; Forward alternating ½ swizzle pumps, in a straight line across width of ice; Moving snowplow stop

Basic 3:
Forward stroking; forward ½ swizzle pumps on a circle, either; Clockwise or counter clockwise 6 -8 consecutive; Moving forward to backward two foot turn in either direction; Backward one foot glide - either foot; Two foot spin

Basic 4:
Forward outside edge on a circle clockwise or counter clockwise; Forward crossovers 6-8 consecutive both directions; Forward outside 3 turn - R & L from a standstill; Backward stroking; Backward snowplow stop - R or L

Basic 5:
Backward outside edge on a circle clockwise or counterclockwise; Backward crossovers 6-8 consecutive in both directions; One foot spin - min of three revolutions; Side Toe hop -either direction; Hockey stop

Basic 6:
Forward inside 3-turn from a standstill - R & L; Bunny Hop; Forward arabesque spiral on a straight line R or L; Lunge - R or L; T-stop - R or L

Basic 7:
Forward inside open Mohawk - R to L and L to R; Ballet Jump either direction; Back crossovers to a back outside edge landing position; Clockwise and counter clockwise; Forward inside pivot

Basic 8:
Moving forward outside or forward inside three turns R & L; Waltz jump; Mazurka in either direction; Combination move - clockwise or counter clockwise -two forward crossovers into FI Mohawk, step behind, step into one back crossover and step to a forward inside edge; Beginning one-foot upright spin - optional free foot position

Adult Basic Skills Levels:
Use elements from the Basic Skills Adult 1-4 . Must have passed no higher than Adult 4. Time: 1:40 max Vocal music is not allowed

Limited Beginner (Competitive Test Track):
Two upright spins, no change of foot (min 3 revolutions), jumps with not more than one-half rotation (front to back or back to front). Jump sequences are allowed. Maximum 5 jump elements. Connecting moves and steps should be demonstrated throughout the program. Skaters may not have passed tests higher than U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills free skating badge tests

Beginner (Competitive Test Track):
Two upright spins, change of foot optional (min 3 revolutions), jumps with not more than one-half rotation (front to back or back to front), single rotation jumps: Salchow and toe loop only. Jump combinations and sequences are allowed. Maximum 5 jump elements. Connecting moves and steps should be demonstrated throughout the program

Limited Pre-Preliminary:
MAXIMUM of five jump elements. Axel and double jumps are not permitted at this level. All jumps may be repeated as individual jumps or in combination or sequence. No more than three combos or sequences, one combo may have three jumps / others only two. Number of jumps in sequence is free. Maximum of two spins of different nature. One step sequence using ½ of the ice surface.

Pre-Preliminary:
Well balanced program with a MAXIMUM of five jump elements. Double jumps are NOT PERMITTED and a maximum of 2 axels are allowed at this level. All jumps may be repeated as individual jumps or in combination or sequence. No more than three combos or sequences, one combo may have three jumps/others only two. Number of jumps in sequence is free. Maximum of two spins of different nature. One step sequence using ½ of the ice surface.

Pre-Juvenile:
Per 2010-11 USFS Rules For skaters 12 years of age and under as of 7/1/2010.

Open Pre-juvenile:
Same as for Pre-juvenile for competitors age 13 and over as of 7/1/2010.

Juvenile:
Per 2010-11 USFS Rules For skaters 12 years of age and under as of 7/1/2010.

Open Juvenile:
Same as Juvenile for skaters age 13-18.

Intermediate:
Per 2010-11 USFS Rules. Must be 17 years of age or younger as of 7/1/2010.

Novice:
Per 2010-11 USFS Rules

Junior:

Adult:
As entries warrant, events will be divided in Pre-Bronze, Bronze, Silver, Gold for competitors who are 21 years of age or older. Pre-Bronze - 1:40, No lutzes, axels or double jumps allowed. Bronze – 1:40, No axels or double jumps allowed Required elements as stated in 3801 Silver - 2:10– axels allowed, no double jumps Gold - 2:40– doubles allowed

ARTISTIC REQUIREMENTS/RESTRICTIONS: Requirements/Restrictions are the same as Freeskating (please see previous text).  Open Pairs exhibition event (FS 215) is open to any two skaters who want to present a pair program of 1.5 to 2.0 minutes.  There are no restrictions as to gender, age, or skating level.  The music selection can be any style, with or without vocals.  No lifts are permitted.  The judges will be looking for good unison and original choreography. Skaters will be judged on interpretation of theme and tempo of their chosen music. Artistic expression and musical interpretation are the major elements judged. Appropriate costumes are encouraged but are not required. Props may be used if they can be placed and removed by the skater in 30 seconds and do not present a danger to the skater.

DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM TIMES LISTED. THERE IS NO PENALTY FOR PROGRAMS SHORTER THAN THE LISTED TIME BUT THERE IS A PENALTY FOR LONGER PROGRAMS.


Low Beginner: Split jump or half flip, Waltz Jump, Forward Lunge or straight spiral, Spin in an upright position (minimum 3 rev.), 4-5 forward crossovers on a curve.

High Beginner: Salchow, waltz jump/toe loop combination, forward outside spiral, scratch spin (minimum 3 rev.)

Pre-Preliminary: flip jump, jump combination waltz jump/toe loop OR salchow/ toe loop, sit spin or camel spin, spiral sequence (must include a forward and backward spiral.)

Preliminary: Lutz jump, jump combination (may not use lutz jump or axel), camel spin, spiral sequence (must include a forward and backward spiral)

Pre-Juvenile/Open Pre Juvenile: A single jump of choice, a combination jump consisting of single/single or double/single jumps, a spin combination w/ one change of position and no change of foot, spiral sequence (must include a forward and backward spiral.)

Juvenile/Open Juvenile: A double jump of choice, a combination jump consisting of double/single or double/double jumps, a spin combination w/ at least one change of position and only one change of foot, spiral sequence (must include a forward and backward spiral.)

Intermediate/Juvenile/Open Juvenile: A skater may enter either Juvenile/Open Juvenile Compulsory or Short program but not both. 2010/2011 SP Elements Requirements for juvenile short program are the same as for Intermediate. Groups will be separated by level if there are enough skaters.
