25 Years of Soccer Tradition in the Iowa Games
Youth Soccer Registration Deadlines Approaching
AMES, Iowa – Deadlines for the Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project youth soccer tournament are quickly approaching. The tournament is slated for July 15-17 in Ames.
As one of the original Iowa Games sports in 1987, over 90,000 athletes have participated in the Iowa Games soccer tournament in its 25 year history. In 2010, the tournament featured over 2,600 athletes on 194 teams.
The early registration deadline is Tuesday, May 31 and the final registration deadline is Monday, June 6. Teams can save $20 by registering on or before the early registration deadline. Complete tournament details are available at www.iowagames.org.
“The Iowa Games are probably best known for the soccer competition and with this year being the 25th anniversary we are looking for a record number of teams,” commented Ryan Vogt, Iowa Sports Foundation Event Coordinator. “The Games are unique in athletes compete for a gold, silver, or bronze medal and have the chance to attend the Opening Ceremony and be part of the Olympic-style parade of athletes.”
Iowa Games youth soccer offers divisions for all abilities – from the highly competitive to the recreational teams. Divisions offered in the tournament range from under age 6 to under 19 years of age.
