The Iowa Sports Foundation announced today the kick-off of its first ever National Anthem competition. The competition is an opportunity for Iowans to show their talents for a chance to be selected to sing the National Anthem at the Summer Iowa Games Opening Ceremony.
The 25th Anniversary Summer Iowa Games Opening Ceremony will be held on July 15, 2011 in Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. The winner will also have the opportunity to perform at an Iowa Cubs baseball game in August.
Singers have until April 18 to submit a video of themselves or a group singing the National Anthem. After the April 18 deadline, a panel of judges will determine the top videos. Up to five finalists will be selected. These videos will be posted on the Iowa Sports Foundation Facebook fan page, the Iowa Games web site and the ISF Youtube channel on April 25.
Fans will have one week to vote for their favorite National Anthem performer. The voting polls will close on May 1 and the National Anthem competition winner will be announced on the ISF Facebook page and the Iowa Games web site on May 2.
