IOWA GAMES SOCCER: THE TRADITION CONTINUES
Over 200 Expected to Compete
AMES, Iowa – The 2013 Summer Iowa Games youth soccer tournament will be held on July 19-21 in Ames. Online registration and registration forms are available at www.IOWAGAMES.org.
The registration deadlines for the youth soccer tournament (U6-U19) are as follows: early registration (postmark and online), Monday, June 3 and final registration (online only), Monday, June 10. Teams choosing to register early can save $20 on their registration.

REGISTER NOW FOR IOWA’S LARGEST AMATEUR SPORTS FESTIVAL
Over 15,000 Athletes Expected to Compete
AMES, Iowa – The 2013 Summer Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project will officially kickoff on July 20 with the Opening Ceremony. The city of Ames will play host to the many of the sports throughout the month of July. Online registration and registration forms are available at www.IOWAGAMES.org.
The 2013 Summer Iowa Games will hold competitions in 58 sports, featuring more than 15,000 athletes from all of Iowa’s 99 counties. As Iowa’s premier Olympic-style sports festival, the Games will be held in 19 Iowa communities throughout the summer.

Officials from Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food and Family Project announced their third annual National Anthem contest. The contest is an opportunity for Iowans to show their talents for a chance to be selected to sing the National Anthem at the Summer Iowa Games Athlete Jamboree and Opening Ceremony.
The 27th Annual Summer Iowa Games Athlete Jamboree and Opening Ceremony will be held July 20, 2013 at Jack Trice Stadium on the Iowa State University campus. The winner will also have the opportunity to perform at an Iowa Cubs baseball game August 9, 2013.

Dubuque, Iowa – The 21st edition of the Winter Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project will officially kick off in Dubuque on Saturday, Jan. 26 and Sunday, Jan. 27. The main weekend of the Games will feature 11 sports and over 2,500 athletes.
Youth basketball, fitness walk, youth ice hockey, indoor soccer, martial arts, 5K road race, swimming, table tennis, volleyball, wrestling and a Zumba Fitness® class are on the schedule of events.

AMES, Iowa – Registration is now open for the 21st annual Winter Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project. Dubuque will play host to the majority of events, Jan. 25-27. The Games offers events for individuals of all ages and abilities. The 2013 Winter Iowa Games will hold competitions for 22 sports. Dubuque will host youth basketball, cross country skiing, a fitness walk, youth ice hockey, indoor soccer, martial arts, 5K road race, swimming, table tennis, volleyball and Zumba® on Jan. 25-27. Adult men’s basketball, dodgeball, figure skating, a fitness walk and adult ice hockey will be held in Cedar Rapids on Feb. 9-10.
The 2012 Games set a new participation record of 4,202 athletes from across the state in 85 of Iowa’s 99 counties. As Iowa’s premier winter sports festival, the Games will be held in 11 Iowa communities over the four-week period. For a complete list of sports offered visit www.IOWAGAMES.org.

Danna Kelly of West Des Moines and Carroll Marty of Ames have been named the 2012 National Congress of State Games Athletes of the Year. Both will receive their award on October 11 at the Annual State Games Symposium in Blaine, MN. Two adults and one youth are chosen annually from among more than 400,000 athletes participating in state games events in 35 member states.
For the first time in the 18 year history of the award, both the male and female athletes have resided from the same state.

AMES, Iowa – The 2012 Summer Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project will officially kickoff on July 13 in Ames on the east side of Iowa State University’s Jack Trice Stadium.
This year the Games has added a country twist as the Iowa Games and 97.3 The Hawk welcome country acts The Lost Trailers with special guest Sunny Sweeney to the Athlete Jamboree and Opening Ceremony.
The Opening Ceremony will include a parade of athletes, arrival of the torch, lighting of the cauldron, fireworks and conclude with performances by Sunny Sweeney and The Lost Trailers. The Iowa Games National Anthem contest winners, Men’s Quartet from Mount Vernon, will be singing “The Star Spangled Banner.”

The Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project announces the second annual National Anthem contest winner. The contest provided an opportunity for Iowans to showcase their talents for the chance to sing the National Anthem at the Summer Iowa Games Athlete Jamboree and Opening Ceremony, Friday, July 13 in Ames.
This year’s winner is the Men’s Quartet from Mount Vernon, Iowa. The group is comprised of Micah Russell, Brandon Douglas, Seamus Taylor and Zak Moran. This year’s voting was based on the number of Facebook ‘Likes’ and survey votes. The top five results consisted of Men’s Quartet with 1,860, Allison Te Slaa (1,717), Jacob Mason (1,262), Kate Pomerenke (499) and Rochelle Clark (133).

Winter Iowa Games Breaks Participation Record
AMES, IA – The Winter Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project concluded this past weekend with women’s 6 on 6 basketball. The Iowa Games officially announced today that the event broke the all-time participation record with 4,173 participants. This broke the previous record of 4,132 set in 2010.
The 2012 Winter Iowa Games held competitions for 21 sports spanning over five weekends in January and February. Being Iowa’s premier winter sports festival, the Iowa Games was held in 11 Iowa communities over the five-week period.

The 20th Anniversary Winter Iowa Games powered by the Iowa Food & Family Project will converge in Dubuque Saturday, Jan. 28 and Sunday, Jan. 29. The main weekend Winter Iowa Games will feature 12 sports and 3,000 athletes. Alpine skiing racing, youth basketball, cross country skiing, a fitness walk, youth ice hockey, indoor soccer, martial arts, a 5K road race, snowboarding, table tennis, volleyball and wrestling are all on the schedule of events.
