Norman Borlaug was raised near Cresco, Iowa and is one of only six people to have won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. He is referred to as the “Father of the Green Revolution” and credited with introducing high-yield, disease-resistant wheat varieties that saved over a billion people worldwide from starvation.
Today’s farmers continue his legacy.
So does the Iowa Food & Family Project.
The Iowa Food & Family Project isn’t an organization. It’s a movement, one that celebrates the miracle of food and the men and women that provide it.
The Iowa Food & Family Project doesn’t consist of a board of directors. There are no officers or board of directors. It isn't incorporated.
Instead, the Iowa Food & Family Project is an activity-led initiative that brings together Iowans from all walks of life. They include farmers and farm families, teachers, students, health professionals, food retailers, manufacturers, bankers and lenders, academia, geneticists, agronomists, transportation specialists and people of faith. All those who are involved in the Iowa Food & Family Project believe in the increasingly significant role Iowa plays in feeding and fueling our state, nation and the world. They want all farmers to prosper. They believe that food should be respected.
They also believe in the organization’s mission: To inspire strong and enduring relations between farmers and consumers through personal engagement, advocacy and education to the benefit of human vitality, environmental quality and economic prosperity.

Positively engage Iowans about the origin and quality of their food through the development and implementation of innovative programs and activities;

Proactively address food and farming issues using print and broadcast media, personal engagement, social media and strategic partnerships;

Celebrate Iowa’s rural communities and champion the pride, integrity and ethics of Iowa’s farm families and those involved in the farm-to-plate system;

Advocate a respect for food by promoting its judicious and prudent consumption;

Sponsor and promote activities that assist those who are food insecure and the organizations that serve them; and

Compliment existing ag awareness and consumer engagement activities and mobilize stakeholders to effectively coordinate messaging and resources.
